Shakespeare Festival
This festival is held at the Kourion Amphitheater, a fitting venue to honor the works of Shakespeare. This charity event takes place annually in June
Amathusia Festival
Held in July, this event features performances by local dance groups, string quartets and traditional and modern Cypriot singing groups
Wine Festival
September is the time when Limassol celebrates the long history of Cypriot wine making. Festivities are held in the Municipal Garden and are a modern day representation of ancient celebrations dedicated to Dionysus, the God of Wine
Historical and Archaeological Sites in Limassol
Amathus
Steeped in mythology and legend, Amathus is the site of the temple of the goddess Aphrodite. There is a series of tombs dating to the Iron Age also located in Amathus along with many other important archaeological finds
Kourion
This ancient city continues to thrill archaeologist with the treasures it reveals as excavations continue. A fine example of Greco-Roman architecture discovered in Kourion is the 2nd century BC amphitheater. Now fully restored, it is the venue of many theatrical and musical performances. Other popular attractions in Kourion include the House of the Gladiators with its stunning mosaic floors, the Basilica and the House of Achilles
